The mission of the CAARE-BD program is to identify, treat, and prevent symptoms of bipolar disorder in children at-risk for the illness.
Dr. Roybal is Director of the CAARE-BD Program. She and her colleagues evaluate, diagnose, and treat children and adolescents at-risk for bipolar disorder and with bipolar disorder. Dr. Roybal also provides secondary consults for diagnostic clarification and treatment recommendations for other providers in the community. Treatment may involve medications and psychotherapy. The Research Program at CAARE-BD studies the causes, treatment, and prevention of pediatric bipolar disorder. We work to better understand which children are at-risk for developing the illness and provide early intervention so symptoms do not develop or worsen. Some of the tools we use to study the disorder are brain imaging using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and genetic sequencing.Read More
